Tesla Motors (TSLA) gained a toehold in the home Thursday, moving beyond the garage, as Vermont’s Green Mountain Power became the first utility to offer Powerwall batteries to its customers. Green Mountain said Thursday that its Vermont customers now have the option of buying the Tesla Powerwall, which stores electricity generated from solar panels and from utilities when rates are low, to provide backup electricity.
