Take-Two Interactive Software (TTWO) is poised to squeeze more money out of players of its hit video game “Grand Theft Auto 5,” beyond its $60 retail price. A survey by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners finds that a good chunk of GTA 5 players are going online with the game and have shown a proclivity for spending money on in-app purchases with other games. CIRP polled 300 people who had purchased GTA 5 in the two weeks after its Sept. 17 launch. “A big question for Take-Two (TTWO) involves how well its new online environment will do,” CIRP partner and co-founder Josh Lowitz said in a statement Thursday. “Among GTA 5 buyers, 43% had registered for GTA Online, and these customers appear ready to spend money online.” Players of “Grand Theft Auto 5,” a mature-themed crime saga game, also play mobile casual games and are experienced with making in-game purchases, CIRP said. The survey results found that 95% of GTA 5 buyers also own at least one app game such as Rovio’s “Angry Birds” or King’s “Candy Crush Saga,” and 32% own three or more of seven popular games.
