Windows 8 not getting boost from end of XP support

Windows 9 can’t come soon enough for Microsoft, as the company’s current Windows 8 series of operating systems continues to struggle on the market. More than 16 months after its release, the much-maligned Windows 8 operating system has mustered just 10.7% of the PC market, Net Applications reported Saturday . It badly trails the 4-year-old Windows 7 operating system, which has 47.3% market share, and the 12-year-old Windows XP, which still has 29.5% market share. An expected uptick in PC or operating system upgrades ahead of the scheduled end of support for Windows XP on April 8 has yet to materialize. After April 8, Microsoft (MSFT) will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows XP, leaving users vulnerable to computer viruses and other malware.
