 Apple’s (AAPL) big-screen iPhone 6 Plus now makes up nearly 50% of the company’s smartphone production, Rosenblatt Securities said Tuesday. Rosenblatt analyst Brian Blair said his firm’s supply chain checks indicate that Apple has ramped up production of the 5.5-inch model phone. “We understand that the 6 Plus is now almost 50% of total production volume (and yields have normalized for the model at Hon Hai, though we believe the iPhone 6 Plus remains more difficult to manufacture),” he said in a research note. Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry, also known as Foxconn Technology Group, is one of  Apple ‘s (AAPL) contract manufacturers.

In a report Monday, BMO analyst Keith Bachman said the supply of iPhone 6 series handsets is still limited nearly three months after the phones debuted. Good news for people with small hands: Apple (AAPL) plans to make a smaller, 4-inch version of its iPhone 6, according to media reports. The current iPhone 6 series phones include a 4.7-inch screen model and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Both were a step up in size from the iPhone 5 series smartphones, which have 4-inch screens. Chinese website Feng.com quotes parts suppliers for Apple who say that Apple will come out with a new 4-inch iPhone next year, according to Forbes. The new phone reportedly will replace the iPhone 5C. Mobile tech news website GSM Arena suggests that the new handset could be called the iPhone 6 Mini. “The new 4-inch model aims to bring the iPhone back to its one-hand use roots and it is suggested will gain more popularity among women compared to the larger models,” it said.
