Apple to begin Apple Watch mass production this month

Apple (AAPL) is gearing up to start manufacturing its Apple Watch later this month, Rosenblatt Securities said Friday. Mass production of the Apple (AAPL) Watch at contract manufacturer Quanta Computer will start in the second half of December, Rosenblatt analyst Jun Zhang said in an Asia supply chain report. The Taiwan-based company is forecast to produce about 18 million units in the next six months, Zhang said. Apple has not set a date for commercial availability of the smartwatch, only saying that it will come out in “early 2015.” It also has been mum on details about pricing (the device will start at $349) and battery life. Lindsay Lohan video game debuts, copies Kim Kardashian

Washed-up actress turned reality TV starlet Lindsay Lohan must have seen the success that famous-for-being-famous socialite Kim Kardashian had with her video game and figured she had to have in on the action. Mobile game studio Space Inch on Thursday announced the release of “Lindsay Lohan’s The Price of Fame.” The game is described as a parody of celebrity culture and paparazzi. Players complete tasks to become famous, attracting fans and creating a persona, buying outfits, accessories, toys and pets. The game is available on the Apple (AAPL) App Store and Google (GOOGL) Play store, with versions for smartphones and tablets. The game is free to play, but offers in-app purchases.

Average U.S. home has 2 streaming video devices

The Internet video revolution continues to take hold, with the average U.S. broadband household owning nearly two connected TV devices. Research firm Strategy Analytics reported Wednesday that ownership of connected TV devices — including smart TVs, smart Blu-ray Disc players, IP-enabled game consoles and digital media streamers — grew 5% quarter on quarter in Q3. The number of devices in U.S. homes grew 28% from the same quarter last year, reaching 168 million units. The average U.S. home now owns 1.9 connected TV devices, compared with 1.5 in Q3 2013, Strategy Analytics said. Adoption of streaming media devices has been driven by the desire of consumers to walk over-the-top video services such as Netflix (NFLX), Amazon (AMZN) Prime Instant Video, Hulu and other services.
