Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows XP will be retired next Tuesday after more than 12 years on the market.  Twelve years is an eternity in the tech world. A lot has happened since the venerable PC operating system was released on Oct. 25, 2001. Microsoft will no longer issue security updates or provide support for the software after April 8, raising concerns about hacking attacks and malware. It has encouraged XP users to upgrade to newer, supported including Windows 7 and 8. For its retirement party, let’s look back at how the world has changed since Windows XP debuted. When Microsoft released the software in October 2001, Barack Obama was a little-known Illinois state senator. Back then Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson and Kim Kardashian were nobodies.
