GoPro rival takes action videos to the next level

LAS VEGAS — The popularity of GoPro (GPRO) action cameras has a lot of consumer electronics vendors gunning for a slice of the lucrative young market. But while most GoPro rivals are coming out with me-too devices, a French startup is taking a different approach to the market. Giroptic of Lille, France, is making a small camera that takes high-definition video with 360-degree views. The 360cam has three cameras and three microphones for capturing action from all angles, says Giroptic CEO Richard Ollier. People even can live-stream their surround videos over Wi-Fi. “We like to say one movie is worth 1 million stories because you can play back the video in so many different ways,” Ollier told IBD at the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas on Sunday.
