GoPro making progress toward media brand goal

Action camera maker GoPro (GPRO) is making progress toward its goal of becoming a media company, a report Monday from Dougherty & Co. suggests. The San Mateo, Calif.-based company is looking to capitalize on the plethora of user images shot with its cameras as well as its own professionally produced adventure videos. “GoPro (GPRO) last week continued to build viewership for its media brand, adding over 18,000 subscribers to its YouTube channel (implied 39% annual growth rate) and over 51,000 Instagram followers (implied 74% growth rate),” Dougherty analyst Charles Anderson said in his research note. “GoPro also gained 26,000 new ‘Likes’ for its Facebook (FB) page, growing the audience by 21% year over year. “GoPro’s channels on Google’s (GOOGL) YouTube now have nearly 2.81 subscribers.
