Wireless Industry Awaits EU Decisions On Two Mergers

European regulators soon will rule on two wireless-industry mergers that will signal how the EU feels about further wireless consolidation. The pending deals would shrink the number of mobile carriers in two countries from four to three. The European Union has been reviewing Spain-based Telefonica’s (TEF) $11.8 billion purchase of Germany’s No. 4 wireless firm, E-Plus, from parent KPN.
