Verizon Buys Intel’s Web TV, Beefs Up Vs. Netflix

Phone company Verizon Communications (VZ) agreed to buy Intel’s (INTC) Media unit and web-based subscription TV service, expanding further into online video. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Verizon already sells a pay-TV service, with 5.2 million customers, called FiOS and operates an online video business with OuterwallOUTR-owned Redbox.
