Valeant Beats Q4 Estimates, Talks Buyout Strategy

Valeant Pharmaceuticals beat analysts’ fourth-quarter estimates Thursday, but analysts were more interested in the Canadian firm’s acquisition strategy in its quest to become the next drug giant. Cash EPS rose 76% vs. a year earlier to $2.15 — 9 cents above the consensus of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters. Sales rose 109% to $2.06 billion, in line. Tesla Powers Up As Battery Factory News Trickles Out

With CEO Elon Musk’s planned call about building a battery “Gigafactory” still awaited, Tesla Motors said late Wednesday it could cost $4 billion to $5 billion by 2020 and employ 6,500 people, with $2 billion coming from the luxury electric-car maker. Tesla (TSLA) also said it will sell $1.6 billion in a public offering of bonds to pay for the projects it sees ahead, which include building a mass-market electric car as well as the Gigafactory.
