VMware Expands Duties Of Its President And CFO

VMware (VMW) is making a few tweaks to its upper management, expanding the duties for two top executives. According to a public filing and press release Tuesday, Jonathan Chadwick, chief financial officer of the No. 1 maker of virtualization software, now will also serve as the company’s co-chief operating officer along with current COO and president, Carl Eschenbach. Post-apocalyptic ‘Last of Us’ leads July game sales

Video game consoles helped to lift overall industry sales in July, while game software sales dipped year over year as consumers faced mostly reruns. U.S. sales of video game hardware, software and accessories at retail rose 16% to $514 million in July, compared with the same month last year, according to the NPD Group. It was the sixth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Game hardware sales doubled to $199 million. Accessories sales inched up 3% to $137 million. But game software sales dipped 15% to $178 million. “Similar to the pattern seen in seven out of the last nine months, strong growth in hardware sales offset declines in software sales in July 2014, while accessory sales had modest growth,” NPD analyst Liam Callahan said in a statement late Thursday.
