Amazon.com puts Fire on a stick for streaming video

Amazon.com (AMZN) is getting on the stick when it comes to its streaming video business. The e-commerce leader on Monday introduced a $39 streaming media dongle called the Fire TV Stick. The device will compete against Google’s (GOOGL) Chromecast and Roku’s Streaming Stick in the market for tiny low-cost gadgets for streaming Internet video to television sets. The Amazon Fire TV Stick comes nearly seven months after Amazon unveiled its $99 Fire TV set-top box, which was released on April 2. The Amazon Fire TV Stick is available for preorder now and will ship on Nov. 19, the company said in a press release.
