Microsoft at 14-year high ahead of possible iPad Office reveal
Microsoft(MSFT) has been leaving money on the table by not making a version of its popular Office productivity software for Apple’s (AAPL) iPad. Now, newly minted CEO Satya Nadella appears ready to bring a bag to that proverbial table and scoop up what could be billions in incremental software sales. Microsoft (MSFT) has scheduled a press conference for March 27 in San Francisco to discuss “the intersection of cloud and mobile computing.” Media reports say Nadella will announce that Microsoft is making Office apps for Apple ‘s (AAPL) tablet. That would mark a major change in strategy for Microsoft, which until now has reserved its Office software for its own Surface tablets as a way to differentiate its devices. Microsoft stock hit a 14-year high on Thursday in advance of next week’s press event. The stock was up 3%, near 40.50, in afternoon trading on the stock market today. Microsoft stock hasn’t been above 40 since April 2000. It hit a record high of 53.98 in December 1999, near the height of the dot-com bubble.
