Apple gets twice the app sales as Google with half the users

Google leads in smartphone market share with its Android operating system, but Apple is crushing Google in paid app downloads. At its I/O developer conference on Wednesday, Google (GOOGL) announced that it has paid more than $5 billion to app developers during the past 12 months for app sales through its Google Play store. Last year, Apple (AAPL) paid app developers about $8 billion, up more than 100% from the prior year, Cowen analyst Timothy Arcuri said in a research note Thursday. Arcuri estimates that Apple is generating at least twice the app sales as Google, with a current annual run rate of $10 billion to $11 billion.

Style deemed critical factor for smartwatch success

Style will be a critical factor in the success or failure of upcoming smartwatches from the likes of Apple (AAPL), LG and Motorola, a new survey shows. Piper Jaffray on Tuesday released the results of a survey of nearly 100 well-heeled consumers in North America that was conducted over the past month. The respondents were asked for their opinions and preferences regarding watches and wearable devices. The average respondent was 32 years old with an annual household income of $130,000. Of those surveyed, 75% own a watch. They own an average of 2.4 watches. By contrast, just 18% of respondents said they own a fitness band. The most important factor when purchasing a watch is style, followed by price, the survey revealed. Most wanted iPhone 6 feature may surprise you

A consumer survey has revealed that the most wanted new feature from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 isn’t a bigger screen. It’s better battery life. RBC Capital Markets polled more than 4,000 consumers and found what they desire most from a new iPhone is better battery life, followed by a larger screen size. While the iPhone 6 is expected to come in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models, vs. the current 4-inch display for the iPhone 5 series, the expected battery life hasn’t been revealed. Historically, Apple (AAPL) has chosen thinner designs over larger batteries.
