Apple gets twice the app sales as Google with half the users
Google leads in smartphone market share with its Android operating system, but Apple is crushing Google in paid app downloads. At its I/O developer conference on Wednesday, Google (GOOGL) announced that it has paid more than $5 billion to app developers during the past 12 months for app sales through its Google Play store. Last year, Apple (AAPL) paid app developers about $8 billion, up more than 100% from the prior year, Cowen analyst Timothy Arcuri said in a research note Thursday. Arcuri estimates that Apple is generating at least twice the app sales as Google, with a current annual run rate of $10 billion to $11 billion.
