Google leads in smartphone market share with its Android operating system, but Apple is crushing Google in paid app downloads. At its I/O developer conference on Wednesday, Google (GOOGL) announced that it has paid more than $5 billion to app developers during the past 12 months for app sales through its Google Play store.
