Apple, Huawei buck slowing smartphone sales trend

The global smartphone industry posted its slowest growth rate in six years in the second quarter. But (AAPL) (AAPL) and Huawei bucked the trend and grew rapidly to gain market share. Smartphone shipments grew just 15% annually in the second quarter, reaching 339.5 million units, research firm Strategy Analytics said Thursday. Apple iPhone 6s launch may add to T-Mobile hot streak

 (AAPL) expected rollout of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, expected in September, has T-Mobile US (TMUS) gunning for yet more market share gains vs. AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Communications. Qorvo Nose-Dives, Guidance Misses Analyst Forecasts

(AAPL) chipmaker (QRVO) was on a nearly 16% nosedive Thursday after the company’s fiscal second-quarter forecast dipped below Wall Street expectations. For its Q2 ending on or near Sept. 30, the Greensboro, N.C.-based company predicted revenue of $690 million to $710 million, which would be up 93% at the midpoint vs. the year-earlier quarter and up 4% over Q1.
