The strength of mobile phone sales will come into better focus when Qualcomm (QCOM) reports fiscal first-quarter earnings after market close Wednesday. The San Diego-based company, one of the biggest makers of chips for mobile phones, is expected to report earnings per share minus items of $1.18, down 6% from the year-earlier quarter, after posting six straight quarters of double-digit gains.
