OSX Mavericks: Kotoeri Japanese input method sometimes appears to generate incorrect characters

When you have more than one input method selected in Mavericks, you may see one or more of the following: When Kotoeri and another language are both configured as keyboard input methods, the input source may not use JIS (Japan Industry Standards) keyboard settings as expected.
