Hewlett-Packard showed some muscle in the fledgling Network Functions Virtualization market by beating Cisco Systems, VMware and others in signing telecom carrier Telefonica to a multiyear pact. Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) is one of several tech giants scrambling to offer NFV, a virtualization computing system that relies more on software than hardware to help service providers speed an increasing amount of data through their networks at a reduced cost.
