Facebook’s Instagram Seen Growing Smartphone Users

As investors mull Facebook’s (FB) two latest acquisitions — of WhatsApp and virtual-reality startup Oculus — the social networking firm’s earlier purchase of Instagram has paid off with growing smartphone usage, research firm eMarketer said in a report on Thursday. Facebook acquired Instagram, a photo- and video-sharing service, for $1 billion in 2012. Facebook in February said it would acquire mobile messaging firm WhatsApp for up to $19 billion.
