Cypress Will Buy Memory Maker Spansion For $1.6 Bil

California-based chipmaker Cypress Semiconductor (CY) announced Monday it is acquiring Spansion (CODE) for about $1.6 billion to form a company specializing in microcontrollers and flash-memory chips with combined annual sales of more than $2 billion. The all-stock deal, which the companies valued at $4 billion, is expected to close in the first half of next year pending the approval of stockholders from both companies and regulators in the U.S., Scalper1 News
