Convergence Seen Pushing Ciena Into Cisco Territory

Fiber-optic parts maker Ciena (CIEN) is moving up the telecom supply chain, taking on network gear vendors Juniper (JNPR), Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Alcatel-Lucent (ALU), UBS says in a new report. Ciena, whose core business is selling optical technologies, is adding more packet-switching networking functionality into its products, says UBS analyst Amitabh Passi, who has a buy rating and price target of 27 on the stock.
