Last fall, late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien vowed to “conquer” LinkedIn (LNKD) by amassing the most followers on the professional social network. But in what’s sure to have been a blow to his ego, his efforts have come up way short of his goal. O’Brien made his initial bid for LinkedIn  (LNKD) followers with an on-air plea on Sept. 26 on his TBS show “Conan.” On Oct. 20, LinkedIn added O’Brien as an “influencer” columnist in its news and insights section. As of Nov. 5, O’Brien had cracked the top 100 of LinkedIn influencers, ranking No. 97 out of nearly 500 LinkedIn Influencers, a list that includes corporate executives, politicians, academics and authors. But his progress has slowed significantly since then. As of Friday, O’Brien ranked No. 65 out of 518 LinkedIn Influencers, with 122,694 followers. After four months of trolling for followers on the service, using his TBS show as a bullhorn, he’s come nowhere close to conquering LinkedIn. The top influencers on the service are Virgin Group founder Richard Branson (3.57 million followers), former General Electric (GE) CEO Jack Welch (1.72 million), Chopra Foundation founder Deepak Chopra (1.66 million) and Microsoft (MSFT) co-founder and Chairman Bill Gates (1.22 million). O’Brien aired his latest attempt to gain followers on his show on Tuesday. “I decided a while ago I wanted to rule LinkedIn. I must be the king of LinkedIn,” O’Brien said. “I am that narcissistic.” Scalper1 News
