Apple seeks to defuse iCloud hacking scandal ahead of event

Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook sought to defuse the iCloud hacking scandal on Thursday before the company’s big product launch event next week. The embarrassing episode threatens to distract media coverage of Apple’s new hardware and services. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Cook said  Apple (AAPL) will increase security on iCloud following targeted attacks that leaked nude photos of female celebrities online. The victimized celebrities included Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Hope Solo and Kirsten Dunst. In response to the attacks, Apple plans to issue security updates to its iCloud and iTunes login system within two weeks. The updates will alert users on their devices whenever someone tries to access their account from a new, unregistered device or tries to change a password.
