Amazon Impact Seen As E-Commerce Outpaces Retail

E-commerce accounted for 5.9% of all retail sales in Q3, up from 5.2% a year ago and 1.8% a decade earlier, as companies like Amazon.com (AMZN) continue to draw consumers’ dollars at a faster pace than traditional stores can. Total retail sales in Q3 increased 4.7% from the prior year to $1.14 trillion, while e-commerce sales jumped 17.5% annually to $67 billion, according to the Commerce Department.
