Amazon (AMZN) is taking its streaming video rivalry with Netflix (NFLX) to Japan, announcing late Wednesday that it will launch Prime Instant Video next month. Netflix had said earlier this month that it would launch in Japan on Sept. 2. Meanwhile, Amazon reportedly is scaling back its hardware efforts after its Fire smartphone last year failed to make a dent vs. the Apple (AAPL) iPhone and Google (GOOGL) Android devices.
