Shire Offers $30 Billion For Ex-Baxter Unit Baxalta

Barely after it hatched as an independent company, drugmaker Baxalta (BXLT) got an unsolicited $30 billion buyout proposal from Shire (SHPG), sending its stock up sharply in early trading Tuesday. Shire said that on July 10 it proposed an all-stock transaction exchanging 0.1687 Shire ADR for every share of Baxalta, which implies a value of $45.23 a share based on Shire’s current price.
