Netflix down on Emmy whiff, rival Canada service

Netflix (NFLX) was snubbed by Emmy voters Monday night, but Pacific Crest Securities showed it some love with a bullish report. The streaming video service earned 31 Emmy nominations for its original shows, including “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black,” but went home empty-handed during the prime-time ceremony. Netflix did win seven awards during the Emmy’s Creative Arts Awards on Aug. 16 for sound mixing, editing, cinematography and other lesser categories. Why Netflix doesn’t give viewer numbers for its shows

Netflix is notoriously cagey about providing viewership figures for its original shows like “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black.” And now we know why — the viewership numbers don’t live up to the hype, according to a new survey. Both of those critically acclaimed series have high awareness among Netflix (NFLX) subscribers, but fewer than half of those subscribers have ever watched either show, according to Centris Marketing Science. Among Netflix subscribers, 89% are aware of the political drama “House of Cards,” and 94% are aware of the prison comedy “Orange Is the New Black.” But only 31% of subscribers have watched an episode of “House of Cards,” and 44% have watched “Orange Is the New Black.” The Centris report did not specify how many episodes of each show Netflix subscribers watched, but Home Media Magazine attempted to calculate how those shows would compare with ratings…
