Home PC buyers stuck with Windows 8 as Win 7 sales end

Ever since Microsoft released its Windows 8 operating system two years ago, consumers have had the choice to order PCs installed with the older, better-received Windows 7 OS instead. But not anymore. Microsoft on Friday stopped providing Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Ultimate licenses to PC manufacturers, VentureBeat reported. Once their supply of Windows 7 licenses runs out, consumers will be stuck getting the unpopular Windows 8. Businesses will still be able to order Windows 7 Professional personal computers for at least another year.
