Chromebook sales are on fire, according to market research firm Gartner (IT). In a report Monday, Gartner said sales of Chromebooks will reach 5.2 million units in 2014, up 79% from 2013. By 2017, Chromebook sales are set to nearly triple, reaching 14.4 million units, Gartner said. A Chromebook is a notebook computer that runs Google ‘s (GOOG) Chrome operating system and mainly uses the Internet cloud for storage. A wireless connection, either Wi-Fi or cellular, is required to access online data and applications.
