OS X Mavericks Available Today Free from the Mac App Store

Apple today announced that OS X Mavericks, the 10th major release of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system, is available for free from the Mac App Store. With more than 200 new features, OS X Mavericks brings iBooks and Maps to the Mac, includes a new version of Safari, enhances multi-display support, introduces Finder Tabs and Tags, and delivers new core technologies for breakthrough power efficiency and performance. “We want every Mac user to experience the latest features, the most advanced technologies, and the strongest security,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “We believe the best way to do this is to begin a new era of personal computing software where OS upgrades are free.”

Apple Updates iMac

Apple today updated iMac to bring numerous high-performance enhancements to the world’s leading all-in-one desktop. iMac now features fourth-generation Intel Core processors, new graphics, and next-generation Wi-Fi. In addition, it now supports PCIe-based flash storage, making its Fusion Drive and all-flash storage options up to 50 percent faster than the previous generation. “iMac continues to be the example that proves how beautiful, fast and fun a desktop computer can be,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

Fast Turns at Le Mans with Final Cut Pro X

For the second straight year, French post-production house Xtrem Productions covered the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance car race using Apple’s Final Cut Pro X video editing software on Thunderbolt-enabled Mac computers. Using footage from multiple trackside and handheld cameras, the company produced driver interviews, race highlights, and features for TV broadcast and theatrical release. “Things are easier to do in Final Cut Pro X, and they’re much faster, which means we can not only do more segments, but we can do more with them,” says Xtrem production manager Sacha Le Coroller.
