You’ve heard of the cloud. Now brace yourself for “the fog”! First came cloud computing, where people access computer resources, software applications and data — stored in remote server farms — over the Internet. Now tech industry insiders have coined the term “fog computing” to address the “Internet of Things,” a dispersed network of sensors and smart devices. “Fog computing could be the next evolution of cloud computing,” UBS analyst Steven Milunovich said in a report Thursday. “Currently, the pendulum is swinging toward centralized cloud computing.
