Apple Watch buyers mostly men, but women win mobile app battle of the sexes

Young men, traditionally early tech adopters, are most likely to own an Apple (AAPL) Watch, Google (GOOGL) Android Wear and other smartwatches; no surprises there. But when it comes to the biggest users of mobile apps, women dominate, according to a research report by eMarketer released Thursday, based on polling conducted in October by research firm Resonate. Resonate asked smartwatch users about their use of 15 categories of mobile apps, not just on a watch. Social networking apps were used by 60% of women respondents vs. 47% of men. Women also lead in use of mobile gaming apps, 53% to 49% . With music and storage apps, the survey found 53% of women and 43% of men reported being users. ProNAi Therapeutics (DNAI) rose strongly as it made its initial public offering Thursday, raising $138 million. Another biotech IPO with a strong showing Thursday was Chiasma (CHMA), which priced above its estimated range and raised $102 million. Intel Q2 Beat, Guidance Earns ‘Whew!’ From Analyst

Intel (INTC) got two upgrades and a price target increase Thursday after stronger sales for its data center, Internet of Things and flash memory businesses offset sluggish PC demand to boost Q2 earnings above analyst expectations. In research reports Thursday, Ascendiant Capital Markets upgraded Intel to hold from sell, Needham & Co. upgraded Intel to buy from hold, and Northland Securities boosted its price target on Intel stock to 32 from 31.
