BlackBerry Future May Be Clearer With Earnings Report

Beleaguered BlackBerry (BBRY) is scheduled to report quarterly earnings before the open Friday, with revenue projected to fall 44% from the year-earlier period. It would be the eighth double-digit drop in the last nine quarters. Not all analysts have entirely thrown in the towel on BlackBerry, a pioneer and former leader in the smartphone market prior to the arrival of the Apple (AAPL) iPhone and Google (GOOG) Android handsets. Apple iPhone 5S demand hasn’t fallen off since launch

Apple (AAPL) iPhone demand remains strong overall, with sales of the company’s high-end iPhone 5S smartphone more than offsetting weak demand for the midrange iPhone 5C, says Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Chris Caso.  The mix shift in Apple’s (AAPL)  iPhone sales to the latest model will benefit the company’s top and bottom lines in the December quarter, Caso said in a research report late Wednesday. Apple (AAPL) will begin selling its new high-end professional desktop computer, the Mac Pro, online Thursday, the company announced Wednesday. The computer is designed around a unified thermal core and is housed in a cylindrical aluminum enclosure that is just 9.9 inches tall. The Mac Pro is designed for creative professionals like graphic designers, animators and video editors. It can edit ultra-high-definition 4K video while rendering effects in the background, the company said. While the desktop computer supports 4K displays, Apple isn’t currently selling one. This curious development has prompted speculation that Apple could release 4K displays when it announces its rumored television…
