IPhone 6 rumors could be hurting Apple phone sales

Rumors of Apple’s (AAPL) upcoming big-screen iPhone 6 could be starting to hurt sales of current iPhone 5 series smartphones, analysts say. The impact could show up in Apple’s fiscal second-quarter report due out after the close Wednesday. Apple  (AAPL) iPhone sales slowed in April because of the launch of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, and consumers who delayed iPhone purchases until a new larger screen iPhone comes out, Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael Walkley said in note Monday. The rumored iPhone 6 isn’t expected to debut until September. Walkley says high-end Google (GOOGL) Android-based handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 will take market share from Apple before the iPhone 6 launch, especially in the June quarter. However, Apple should win back meaningful high-end market share after the iPhone 6 comes out, he says.

Apple (AAPL) is scheduled to release Q2 results after the close on April 23. “We expect Apple to announce a decision on incremental cash returns on its earnings call,” Sacconaghi said in a research report. “We believe that many (particularly value-oriented) shareholders are looking for Apple to provide a framework and commitment for capital return, such as a minimum percentage of ongoing free cash flow that would be returned to shareholders.” Apple is likely to increase its existing stock-buyback program, Sacconaghi said: “We believe that Apple may add $30 billion to its current repurchase plans through year-end CY15.”

Apple Seen Selling ‘Phablet’ iPhone 6 For $100 More

Apple (AAPL) will likely price a bigger-screen, “phablet” iPhone 6, rumored to be in development, $100 higher than a smaller iPhone 6, similar to rival Samsung’s smartphone strategy, says Raymond James & Associates in a research report. Speculation over Apple’s pricing plans has picked up amid web reports that it’s developing two iPhone 6 models, with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens. Jefferies on Monday said Apple is in talks with wireless firms
