Apple iPhone sales, cash return plan focus of Q2 report

W ith Apple (AAPL) likely to remain quiet about its Apple Watch rollout, Wall Street’s attention is shifting to the company’s fiscal second-quarter earnings, due out after the close next Monday, April 27. Wells Fargo Securities analyst Maynard Um on Monday reiterated his market perform rating on Apple stock, saying that the company will face gross profit margin pressures and limited growth opportunities in its existing product categories. Pacific Crest Securities analyst Andy Hargreaves on Sunday reiterated his sector weight rating on Apple, arguing that the stock is fully valued at current levels. For the March quarter, analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect Apple to earn $2.14 a share, up 29% year over year, on sales of $55.76 billion, up 22%. Apple Watch has a female problem

Surveys are showing that women are much less likely than men to want an Apple Watch. That could be a big problem for a device that’s billed as much as a fashion piece as it is a tech gadget. A Reuters/Ipsos poll out Wednesday indicated that about 6% of U.S. adults plan to buy Apple’s (AAPL) smartwatch after it goes on sale April 24. But the Apple Watch appealed to fewer than 4% of women compared with 9% of men, Reuters reported. Apple likely will find women tougher customers than men, Euromonitor noted in a recent report on the watch market. It notes that women prefer to wear a watch that looks more like a bracelet and less like a timepiece (especially a square, digital timepiece like the Apple Watch), Vox reported. Even the smallest Apple Watch, which has a 1.5-inch display, might be too bulky for many female customers.

Apple, SunPower Partner On China Solar Power Projects

Apple (AAPL) is taking its commitment to clean, renewable energy into China. Apple has partnered with SunPower (SPWR) on two solar power projects totaling 40 megawatts in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefectures, Sichuan Province of China. When complete, the two projects will be co-owned by Apple and Sichuan Shengtian New Energy Development, SunPower’s project development joint venture. The projects are expected to be completed in the
