Apple iPhone outlook brightens, Watch dims

Apple (AAPL) iPhone sales strength and the company’s aggressive capital return program could push its shares higher, BMO Capital Markets analyst Keith Bachman said in a research report Thursday. Meanwhile, he’s less optimistic about Apple Watch sales. Bachman maintained his outperform rating on Apple stock with a price target of 145. Apple was up more than 2.5% to near 123 in late afternoon trading on the stock market today. For the June quarter, Bachman raised his iPhone sales estimate to 48 million units, but kept his estimate for Apple Watch sales unchanged at 3.5 million units. For fiscal 2016, which starts Sept. 27, he raised his iPhone estimates by 3.5 million to 233 million units and lowered his Watch estimates by 3 million to 27.5 million units. Apple only major PC maker to show growth in Q2

Worldwide personal computer shipments fell 11.8% year over year to 66.1 million units in the second quarter. But Apple (AAPL) defied the overall market trend and saw its Mac shipments rise 16.1% to 5.14 million units, research firm IDC said late Thursday. Apple was the only top 5 PC vendor to show an increase in shipments last quarter, IDC said. It ranked No. 4 behind Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Dell. Though they all experienced year-over-year declines in PC shipments in Q2, Lenovo, HP and Dell gained market share because their declines were less than the overall market. China-based Lenovo was tops with 20.3% market share in Q2, up from 19.4% a year earlier, IDC said. Its shipments dropped 7.5% year over year.
