Microsoft writes off entire value of Nokia deal

Microsoft (MSFT) on Wednesday effectively admitted that its acquisition of Nokia ‘s (NOK) mobile phone business was a huge mistake. The Redmond, Wash.-based software giant announced that it will record an impairment charge of $7.6 billion related to the Nokia assets it acquired last year. Microsoft purchased Nokia’s mobile device business for $7.5 billion in April 2014. Microsoft also announced plans to cut up to 7,800 positions, mostly in the phone business, and incur a restructuring charge of $750 million to $850 million. Scalper1 News
